Zao Onsen
Zao Onsen holds a special place for many reasons. Long before skiers began flocking to its snow-filled bowl, the temple of Risshakuji in the heart of the old town has been welcoming visitors since the year 860. The ski resort, the largest in the Tohoku region, boasts a total of 57 slopes served by three gondolas and other lifts, and is renowned for its incredible powder snow and majestic ‘snow monsters’. With various interlinked ski zones, the resort caters to all abilities, from beginners to experienced skiers.

Nozawa Onsen
Nozawa Onsen stands as a world-class ski resort with a delightful old-time atmosphere. Despite being one of Japan’s most popular ski areas, Nozawa Onsen maintains a unique Japanese character, characterized by its narrow, stone-lined streets, established onsen spa culture, and traditional architecture and the famous snow monkeys. A major draw of Nozawa Onsen is its easy access to a vast selection of ‘sidecountry’ skiing opportunities, perfect for the adventurous at heart.

Hakuba
The mountains of Hakuba, nestled within the Northern Chu-bu-Sangaku National Park, boast breathtaking alpine scenery, pristine air, and a plethora of outdoor activities, making it a sought-after destination year-round. Hakuba’s skiing terrain features some of the steepest inclines in Japan, along with accessible backcountry skiing opportunities, particularly around the expansive resorts of Happo-One and Cortina. These areas offer exceptional powder slopes and tree skiing experiences, drawing skiing enthusiasts from around the world.

Hoshino Resorts Nekoma Mountain
Situated on the slopes of Mount Bandai, with commanding views overlooking Lake Inawashiro to the south, the Aizu region is renowned for its smooth, dry ‘micro-fine’ powder snow. This area boasts some of the snowiest terrain in Japan, with snow so dry that it’s nearly impossible to make a snowball. What sets these Aizu ski resorts apart is their tranquil slopes where visitors may feel as though they’ve stumbled upon their own private ski paradise.
